DESCRIPTION:Course design consists of choosing the competencies the student
s are expected to acquire at the\nend of the course\, assessment that is i
n alignment with the chosen competencies\, and planning\ninstructional act
ivities that facilitate students to acquire these competencies or graduate
attributes.\n\nThe traits of graduates of engineering programs including
transferable skills in India are expressed\nas Graduate Attributes\, as de
fined by NBA.\nAn outcome is what the learner will be able to do or perfor
m as a result of some learning\nexperience. By the end of the educational
experience\, each student should have achieved the goal.\nThere is no sing
le specified style of teaching or assessment in OBE\; instead\, classes\,
opportunities\,\nand assessments should all help students achieve the spec
ified outcomes.\nOutcome-Based Education\, OBE is an approach to education
in which decisions about\ncurriculum\, instruction and assessment are dri
ven by the exit learning outcomes that the student\nshould display at the
end of a program or a course.\n\nObjectives:\n\n-\nIntroduce faculty membe
rs to the principles of Outcome-Based Education.\n\n-\nProvide insights in
to the significance of adopting innovative teaching approaches.\n\n-\nEnco
urage faculty to implement Outcome-Based Education in their teaching pract
ices.\n\n-\nExplore the use of Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model to
enhance teaching effectiveness.\n\nDescription: Teaching is a legacy of l
earning and passing on education across generations to make a good example
of our learning. According to Dr. Kumidini\, a good learner is well said
to be a good teacher. This is justified by sharing an activity of the most
influential teacher of your life. Passing on from generations\, do we nee
d to follow the same approach to create impacts on students? Creating inte
ntional learning is easy. In the session\, the professors were introduced
to Outcome-based Education\, a framework quite opposite from a time-based
framework. An outcome-based framework is a design-thinking process where t
he faculty stays with the student in every approachable step but guides th
em to make their optimistic results. They can be made effective by providi
ng information about their goal\, having an objective-oriented session alo
ng complementing assessments to increase the efficiency of learning. This
session is all about standardizing education with all possible innovative
approaches: Faculty. The approach can be made productive using an ISD mode
l.\n\nThe main session focused on Outcome-Based Education\, contrasting it
with traditional time-based frameworks. The concept was elucidated as a d
esign-thinking process\, wherein faculty members accompany students throug
h their learning journey\, guiding them towards achieving optimistic resul
ts. The workshop stressed the importance of setting clear learning objecti
ves\, conducting objective-oriented sessions\, and implementing complement
ary assessments to enhance learning efficiency.\n\nImplementation Strategi
es:\n\nThe workshop underscored the need for intentional learning and stan
dardized education through innovative approaches. Faculty members were enc
ouraged to adopt the ISD model to craft productive teaching experiences. D
iscussions revolved around practical strategies for integrating Outcome-Ba
sed Education principles into existing curriculum structures.\n\nQuestion
and Answer Session:\n\nAll sessions concluded with an interactive question
and answer segment\, allowing participants to seek clarification and enga
ge in meaningful discussions. Participants actively shared their insights
and experiences\, enriching the learning environment.\n\nConclusion:\n\nTh
e “Crafting Excellence” workshop provided faculty members with valuabl
e insights into Outcome-Based Education and its potential to revolutionize
teaching practices. By emphasizing the importance of innovation and inten
tional learning\, the workshop aimed to equip faculty with the tools neces
sary to create impactful educational experiences. The interactive nature o
f the sessions fostered collaboration and idea-sharing among participants\
, further reinforcing the workshop's objectives.\n\nFuture Directions:\n\n
Moving forward\, it is imperative to continue promoting Outcome-Based Educ
ation and supporting faculty members in implementing innovative teaching m
ethodologies. Follow-up sessions\, resources\, and mentoring opportunities
can further enhance faculty readiness and efficacy in crafting excellence
in education.\n\nThis report encapsulates the key highlights and outcomes
of the “Crafting Excellence” workshop\, underscoring the importance o
f embracing transformative approaches to education.\n\nOutcomes:\n\nKey Hi
ghlights:\n\nUnderstanding Learners:\n\nParticipants learned the importanc
e of understanding students' needs and preferences to design effective cou
rse structures. They were encouraged to conduct research and gather insigh
ts into students' learning styles and motivations.\n\nTrying Out Ideas:\n\
nThe workshop emphasized the value of experimentation and iteration in cou
rse design. Participants were encouraged to prototype different teaching m
ethods and activities and test them with small groups of students to gathe
r feedback.\n\nWorking Together:\n\nCollaboration was highlighted as a key
aspect of the design thinking process. Participants engaged in group acti
vities and brainstorming sessions to generate creative ideas for course st
ructure and content.\n\nListening and Improving:\n\nThe importance of list
ening to feedback and continuously improving course structures was emphasi
zed. Participants were encouraged to seek feedback from students and colle
agues and make adjustments to their courses based on this feedback.\n\nCon
clusion:\n\nThe workshop provided valuable insights and practical strategi
es for designing course structures using design thinking principles. Parti
cipants left with a deeper understanding of the importance of empathy\, ex
perimentation\, collaboration\, and continuous improvement in creating eng
aging and effective learning experiences for students.\n\nSpeaker(s): \, K
umudhini \n\nAgenda: \nThis workshop addresses the following topics:\n1. O
utcome Based Education (OBE)\, its advantages & concerns\n2. Characteristi
cs of good teaching\n3. OBE in the curriculum and courses - a hands-on act
ivity\n4. Incorporating activity-based learning techniques into course and
 instruction design.\n5. Assessment & evaluation using rubrics.\n\nBldg: S
