DESCRIPTION:Brought to you by IEEE Nebraska Section's IAS and PES Technical
Chapters.\n\nThe evening will begin with a thirty minute networking sessi
on at 5:30pm followed by dinner and the Update on Electric Transportation
Update presentation at approximately 6:30pm.\n\nWe have previously learned
: The current electric vehicle “renaissance” began over a century ago
with one in every three automobiles sold in America being battery powered.
The first motorized vehicle to go faster than 60 miles per hour was elect
ric. Ferdinand Porsche’s first car was electric. Henry Ford and Thomas E
dison collaborated on electric cars. Now it seems we’ve come full circle
as the likes of Volkswagen\, Ford\, GM\, and Nissan all try to catch up w
ith Tesla.\n\nThe performance of modern Electric Vehicles is significantly
better than that of earlier EVs. The higher energy storge and power outpu
t of Li Ion batteries is perhaps the most important contributor\, but seve
ral other improved electrical components have also contributed significant
ly. These include three phase AC motors\, high efficiency power electronic
s in DC to AC inverters\, and microcomputers in motor controllers. Perform
ance improving technologies and their introduction in EVs are discussed in
this presentation. Experience with modern electric cars will be available
 for attendees.\n\nNOTE: PDH's AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST\n\nCo-sponsored by:
Rebecca Furtado - IEEE Nebraska Section Chair\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr. Don Cox\
, \n\nAgenda: \n5:30pm - Sign in and networking\n\n6:00pm - Dinner starts
and EV Presentation follows\n\n7:30pm - Q & A\n\nParker's Smokehouse\, 168
