DESCRIPTION:IEEE Educational Activities\, in association with IEEE LMAG of
the IEEE Hyderabad Section\, is organizing a webinar on "Physics of Remote
 Sensing\, Satellite Imaging\, Applications\, and Career Opportunities." o
n April 7\, 2024\, from 10:00 a.m. (IST) onwards.\n\nAbstract of the talk:
\n\nRemote sensing is the practice of deriving information about the Earth
's land and water surfaces using images acquired from an overhead perspect
ive\, using electromagnetic radiation in one or more regions of the electr
omagnetic spectrum\, reflected or emitted from the Earth's surface. Every
sensor is limited in respect to the size of the smallest area that can be
separately recorded as an entity on an image. This minimum area determines
the spatial detail the fineness of the patterns-on the image. These minim
al areal units\, known as pixels ("picture elements")\, are the smallest a
real units identifiable on the image.\nRemote sensing techniques are curre
ntly used by a number organizations for the study of remote objects such a
s earth\, lunar\, and planetary surfaces and atmospheres from great distan
ces. Remote sensing data is processed using image processing techniques fo
r producing conventional maps\, thematic maps\, resources surveys in the f
ields of agriculture\, water resources\, forestry etc.\nFor students\, stu
dy of Remote Sensing exposes to number of technologies* that can contribut
e to several dimensions and subsequent personal and professional developme
nt. *Imaging systems\, image processing software\, artificial intelligence
techniques\, robotics\, high speed computing systems\, large capacity sto
rage devices\, data reception\, data processing\, high-speed internet\, la
sers \, deep space communication systems\, etc.\,\n\nIndian Space Research
Organisation (ISRO) has a vibrant Indian Remote Sensing program since 198
8 with a gamut of Indian Remote Sensing Missions (IRS) observing Earth wit
h Optical\, microwave and hyper-spectral instruments flown on-board to pro
vide necessary data in various\nspatial\, spectral and temporal resolution
s to cater to different user requirements in the country and for global us
age. NRSC is the nodal centre for hosting Satellite Data Products from mor
e than 13 IRS satellites right from the first IRS optical mission namely I
RS-1A and SAR imaging missions.\nRemote Sensing satellites were used to mo
