DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to invite you to the public poster presentation
for IEEE Strath’s “Stranger than Fiction” poster competition\, wher
e presenters will be showing off recent innovations with the creative twis
t of applying them to future sci-fi uses! The abstracts come from a range
of disciplines and include decentralised autonomous space communication (t
o defend against extraterrestrial threats)\, hyper-spectral imaging (to en
hance human vision)\, maglev technology (for a maglev space elevator)\, an
d even a prosthetic heart!\n\nThe competition is in celebration of the [82
nd World Science Fiction Convention](https://glasgow2024.org/) being hoste
d in Glasgow this year\, hence the sci-fi twist\, and our judges reflect t
hat coming from academia as well as creative fields\, including Scotland
’s own sci-fi author\, Ken Macleod. The winners of the competition will
be present their posters at the convention\, as well as being given full p
asses\, thanks to generous funding from the IEEE.\n\nThe presentation is o
n 24th July\, between 6 – 8pm\, in the Strathclyde University Students U
nion (Teaching & Learning Building)\, on the Level 1 Concourse. The terrac
e bar will also be open\, so it’s an opportunity to socialise as well as
see the cutting edge of science and technology!\n\nIt would be helpful if
you could register ahead of the event using the links\, but feel free to
turn up on the day.\n\nWe hope to see you there!\n\n[advert for poster com
