DESCRIPTION:According to the CDC more than 29 million US adults have diabet
 es\, and 25% of them don’t know it. The health and economic costs are en
 ormous. Diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death in the United Stat
 es in 2013. It is the leading cause of kidney failure\, lower-limb amputat
 ions\, and adult-onset blindness. More than 20% of health care spending is
  for people with diagnosed diabetes.\n\nThere is no cure for diabetes. Dis
 ease management is the only current option. This talk will explore type 1 
 diabetes management from a process control professional's perspective. The
 re will be a little history and a little process control theory\, modeling
 \, and simulation. There are no prerequisites required\; a brief introduct
 ion to the necessary technologies will be covered. The talk will conclude
