DESCRIPTION:IEEE PCJS Young Professional Talk Series 2024\n\nTowards Suppor
ting Tactile Human-to-Machine Communications with\n\nAn Intelligent Optica
 l Access Network\n\nDr. Lihua Ruan\n\nPengcheng Laboratory\n\nShenzhen\, C
 hina\n\nAbout the Talk\n\nCommunicating tactile-haptic sensations such tha
t humans can immersively interact with distant real/virtual environments t
 hrough machines/robots\, i.e.\, H2M communication\, is a fascinating but c
hallenging leap to our current networks. The optical fiber access network\
, as a pillar of support for low-latency applications\, will need continuo
us capacity upgrading and latency reduction for succeeding H2M communicati
ons. The required improvement could partly be made with the rapid-advancin
g machine learning (ML) techniques to innovate network control solutions.
In this talk\, we will go through how intelligent bandwidth decisions can
be driven by ML to support tactile H2M communications over optical access
networks.\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\nLihua Ruan received her Ph.D. from the U
 niversity of Melbourne (UoM)\, Australia\, in 2020. In Mar 2019 and April\
, 2019\, she was a visiting student at Massachusetts Institute of Technolo
gy (MIT)\, USA. From 2020 to 2022\, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the C
hinese University of Hong Kong\, Shenzhen\, China. She is currently a Rese
archer at Pengcheng Laboratory\, Shenzhen. Lihua pursues a research passio
n on fiber-wireless access networks\, machine learning for networks\, tact
ile Internet and low-latency communications\, and wireless sensing and sec
urity. Lihua actively serves as a reviewer of many high-rank journals and
is/was on the Technical Program Committee (TPC) of OFC\, IEEE ICC\, and AC
P conferences. She was a guest editor for Elsevier Computer Networks Speci
