DESCRIPTION:A Brief History of Operating Systems\n\nDate: November 5\, 2024
 | Time 18:00 CET (UTC+1)\n\nPresenter: Christof Ullwer\n-----------------
----------------------------------------------\n\nThe German Section of th
e Computer Society invites you to a talk on a brief historical overview of
various computer operating systems. Some of these systems are almost forg
otten\, but in the talk\, some of them will be revived with the help of a
simulator.\n\nAbstract:\n\nThis webinar explores the evolution of early co
mputer operating systems\, tracing the development from foundational syste
ms like UNIX V1 and V7 through variants like BSD4.2/Ultrix\, and exploring
lesser-known systems such as Coherent\, Plan9\, and VMS versions 1.5 and
4.7. Christof Ullwer will provide a historical perspective on how these sy
stems shaped the concepts of modern operating systems\, including multi-us
er functionality\, networking\, and portability. Live demonstrations using
simulators will give attendees a chance to see these systems in action\,
providing insights into their functionality and historical significance.\n
\nSpeaker:\n\nChristof Ullwer is an independent computer scientist with ne
arly 45 years of experience in the field. He has worked as a consultant an
d instructor with various computer companies over the years.\n\nDate & Tim
