DESCRIPTION:- $3 registration is mainly to prevent wastage of food because
of casual registrations and no-shows.\n- Virtual attendees NEED NOT pay th
e $3 or register here. They can directly register on Zoom (account require
 d) or watch directly on the YouTube Channel at 6:30 pm (California time) o
 n Monday\, August 12.\n- The venue\, AMD is a US Government contractor\, s
o please bring a government-issued id with you\, be prepared to provide yo
ur citizenship information\, and sign a Non-disclosure agreement (NDA) whe
n you enter.\n\nTalk Synopsis:\n\nTransforming Hearing Aids into Multifunc
tional Communication and Health Devices with Artificial Intelligence\n\nWi
th over 1.5 billion people suffering from hearing impairments according to
the World Health Organization\, hearing aids are crucially important medi
cal wearable devices. Untreated hearing loss has been linked to increased
risks of social isolation\, depression\, dementia\, fall injuries\, and ot
her health issues. However\, partly due to the historical stigma associate
d with assistive devices and functional limitations\, only a small fractio
n of people who need help with hearing have actually adopted the devices.\
n\nIn this talk\, the speaker will present a new class of multifunctional
hearing and health devices with embedded sensors and artificial intelligen
ce. With an extremely energy-efficient embedded deep neural network accele
rator\, these devices continuously classify sound with advanced machine le
arning algorithms\, enhance speech and reduce noise\, serve as a continuou
s monitor for physical and cognitive activities\, an automatic fall detect
ion and alert system\, as well as a personal assistant with connectivity t
o the cloud. Furthermore\, these devices stream audio from phones and othe
r devices with two-day battery life\, translate languages\, transcribe spe
ech\, and remind the wearer of medication and other tasks.\n\nRapid advanc
es in sensors and artificial intelligence are bringing an array of new dev
ices\, applications\, and user benefits to the world. We will discuss how
these technologies are transforming the traditional hearing aids into smar
t multipurpose devices\, helping people not only hear better but live bett
 er lives.\n\nAward Winners:\n\nIndustry Rising Star: Dwith Chenna\, AMD\n\
