DESCRIPTION:Clear and frequent communication is a foundational aspect of co
 llaboration. Effective communication not only enables and sustains the sha
 red situational awareness necessary for adaptation and coordination\, but 
 is often a requirement given the opaque nature of decision-making in auton
 omous systems. In this talk I will share my lab&#39;s recent work at the inter
 section of human-machine communication and human-aware optimization under 
 partially observable conditions. Through these advances we are able to rea
 lize human-autonomy teams that are greater than the sum of their parts\, e
 nabling autonomous systems to operationalize psychological insights about 
 human cognition for effective communication\, to distill and disseminate k
 nowledge from machine learning models for real-time multimodal decision su
 pport\, and even to help humans overcome limitations induced by sensory im
