DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the explosive growth of wavelet-based applications in
this 21st Century to various areas that affect our lives\, multidimension
al (MD) signals—such as images\, videos\, multispectral and forensic ima
ges\, light fields\, and biomedical data volumes—have become ubiquitous.
This talk will review some of the most recent advances in wavelet-based a
pplications that affect our daily lives. We will first review critical con
cepts about wavelets in the processing of these various signals with wavel
et transforms and multiscale analysis\, including time-frequency tiling\,
over complete representations\, higher dimensional bases\, symmetry\, boun
dary effects\, translational invariance\, orientation selectivity\, and be
st-basis selection.\n\nWith applications ranging from pure mathematics to
virtually every engineering field\, from medicine to aerospace\, astrology
to economics\, and oceanography to seismology\, wavelet transforms are be
ing applied to areas where no other transforms have ever been used. In an
application overview\, we will look at some of the most recent creative co
nventional and non-conventional applications of wavelets. On the conventio
nal front\, we will discuss such applications as multidimensional (MD) sig
 nals\, compressive sensing (CS)\, power systems\, atmospheric sciences\, a
nd other areas. On the unconventional front\, we will look at various fiel
ds of applications\, including biomedical engineering analysis in neurophy
 siology\, nondestructive evaluation\, fractals\, and economics.\n\nFinally
\, as wavelet transform has received significant attention in power\, medi
cal\, and engineering communities in the last few years\, we will look at
new\, noteworthy\, and promising developments in wavelet-based power syste
ms\, cybersecurity\, medical\, and engineering applications as we conclude
what appears to be one of the most remarkable success stories of power\,
medical\, mathematical\, and engineering sciences: the story of wavelets a
nd their applications in many areas that affect our lives.\n\n[]\n\nSpeake
