DESCRIPTION:Dear All\,\n\nThe IEEE MTT-S Student Branch Chapter\, IIT Kanpu
r in association with the IEEE MTT-S Uttar Pradesh Section Chapter\, is pl
eased to announce an invited talk by Dr. Krishnamurthy Raghunandan\, Senio
r Manager in MTA / New York City Transit.\n\nTitle: 5G / 6G RAN Millimeter
 wave Initiatives\nDate: September 10\, 2024 (Tuesday)\nTimings: 18:30 IST
\nVenue: Online Platform\n\nAll interested are requested to register for t
he event using the link\ngiven below.\nhttps://forms.gle/AtjWjpPRwHjh5waa8

-------------------------------\n\nInvited Talk Details:\n\nSpeaker: Dr. K
rishnamurthy Raghunandan\n\nTitle: 5G / 6G RAN Millimeter wave Initiatives
\n\nAbstract of the talk:\n\n5G cellular brought about a change in society
leading to wireless becoming the primary access to the Internet and busin
ess services. While other frequency bands are already implemented\, there
are many challenges to implement the millimeter wave band and its enormous
potential to customers.\n\nThis talk will address some of the practical i
ssues of what millimeter wave can provide and yet what are the limitations
in terms of design\, deployment and operations. This requires a closer lo
ok at the Radio Access Network and how to implement millimeter wave band i
n public networks. Its design\, how it will co-exist with the other freque
ncy spectrum in a cellular system are important.\n\nSince 5G and 6G have s
tarted to take over the vertical market segments including factory operati
ons network\, it is changing many aspects from traditional wired systems.
There is considerable expectation that wireless will deliver throughput of
several Gbps and in addition reduce the latency (from 100ms of current In
ternet to 10ms or less in 5G / 6G wireless networks). To address increased
throughput and reduced latency expectations\, several design parameters m
ust be evaluated. Some of these examples will be illustrated.\n\nIn additi
on to cellular\, the public safety network (Police\, Fire\, EMS\, rail and
bus operations etc.) have moved over to cellular system and have differen
t requirements. Their requirements are being addressed by 3GPP starting wi
th 4G LTE and now in 5G and 6G and its global impact in emergency communic
ation will be touched upon. Cellular systems bring about higher level of s
ecurity compared to the current Internet\, because security implementation
begin at the RAN and move up to higher layers. This will be briefly touch
ed upon.\n\nSpeaker's biography:\n\nKrishnamurthy Raghunandan (RAGHU) is S
enior Manager in MTA / New York City Transit. His team is responsible for
bringing latest wireless technologies into Transit\, including piloting ne
w products / systems. Prior to joining MTA\, he worked on cellular technol
ogy for over a decade in Bell labs\, developing products\, field trials me
thods. He worked on development of cellular handsets and infrastructure. E
arlier he worked in ISRO on satellite and launch vehicle systems that prov
ide him with a strong background in systems reliability and test methods f
or space communication systems.\n\n5G cellular is an area that has a lot o
f expectations from the general public and from engineers within the wirel
ess profession. Raghu was a team leader for Radio Access Network (RAN) in
3GPP standards\; he will provide an overview of how new services are being
planned with implementation over the radio physical and MAC layers. The p
resentation covers the RF technology and practical aspects of bringing mil
limeter waves into homes and offices.\n\nRaghu has bachelors (Univ of Myso
re)\, Masters (IIT Kharagpur) and Research (Univ of Surrey\, UK) degrees i
n Electrical engineering and has several publications and a US Patent. Obj
ective of this talk is to show that there are practical limitations on wha
t can be delivered and when. But cellular system has shown excellent growt
h that has sustained over many decades now. These will be touched upon dur
ing the presentation\; the audience get a more realistic view of what to e
xpect and where to focus their research.\n\nLooking forward to your partic
ipation!\n\n------\n\nRegards\,\n\nIEEE MTT-S Student Branch Chapter\, IIT
