DESCRIPTION:The NASA Space Apps Challenge is the world’s largest annual g
 lobal hackathon\, bringing together coders\, scientists\, designers\, stor
ytellers\, makers\, technologists\, and innovators from around the globe.
This year\, Yarmouk University in Irbid\, Jordan\, is proud to host this p
restigious event on October 5-6\, 2024.\n\nYarmouk University successfully
concluded the activities of the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024\, held und
er the theme “Scientific Innovations in Space and Earth.” The event wa
s fully organized and led by the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Soc
iety (AESS) Student Branch at Yarmouk University\, reflecting the society
’s commitment to advancing aerospace and electronic systems education am
ong students.\n\nHosted by the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology
at the ZINC Hall in the Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah II Building\, the e
vent was attended by the Dean\, Dr. Mohammad Al-Zubaidi\, and brought toge
ther students from various Jordanian universities to collaborate on solvin
 g real-world scientific challenges using NASA’s open data.\n\nThis initi
ative directly aligned with IEEE AESS core objectives\, including promotin
g knowledge in aerospace\, space systems\, and advanced technologies\, enh
ancing students’ technical and problem-solving skills\, and building a s
trong\, collaborative engineering community. Through this challenge\, part
icipants explored topics such as data analysis\, artificial intelligence\,
and space-related applications\, translating theoretical knowledge into p
ractical solutions.\n\nDr. Al-Zubaidi emphasized the importance of such st
udent-led initiatives in strengthening innovation and positioning Jordan w
ithin the global scientific and technological landscape. He praised the pa
rticipants’ creativity and highlighted the role of the competition in di
scovering emerging talent and encouraging critical thinking in addressing
global challenges.\n\nThe 2024 edition featured 20 diverse scientific and
technical challenges related to space and Earth sciences. Participants wor
ked in teams under expert mentorship and presented their solutions to a ju
dging panel at the conclusion of the event.\n\nThe results were as follows
:\n\n- First Place: Team YKpython (Yarmouk University) – Khaled Al-Tamim
i and Yousef Hamdan\n- Second Place: Team Visioneera (German Jordanian Uni
versity) – Karmel Al-Qawasmeh\, Muhannad Khader\, Layan Darwish\, and Ly
nn Qabbani\n- Third Place: Team Moon (Hijjawi Faculty\, Yarmouk University
 ) – Rania Al-Rubaie and Saba Bilal\n\nAt the closing ceremony\, awards a
nd certificates were presented to the winning teams.\n\nIt is worth noting
that the NASA Space Apps Challenge is the largest global hackathon\, brin
ging together innovators\, programmers\, scientists\, and students worldwi
de. At Yarmouk University\, the event was not a standalone competition\, b
ut rather a strategic initiative implemented under the IEEE AESS framework
\, aiming to expand awareness of aerospace systems and inspire students to
engage in space-related innovation.\n\nThe success of this event highligh
ts the growing impact of IEEE AESS Yarmouk University\, demonstrating how
student-led efforts can effectively deliver high-impact activities that su
pport both technical excellence and community development in alignment wit
h AESS’s global mission.\n\nThe event was organized by a dedicated stude
nt team under AESS leadership\, including Hassan Abu Sarris and Ryan Al-Ai
fan\, reflecting strong leadership\, teamwork\, and commitment to advancin
 g the society’s vision.\n-----------------------------------------------
