Every year IEEE Mangalore Subsection celebrates IEEE day with Late Prof. K M Hebbar M emorial Lecture. Prof. Hebbar was a life member of IEEE and former profess or of KREC Surathkal and NMAMIT\, Nitte. The lecture was delivered by Prof . Niranjan N Chiplunkar\, Principal\, NMAM Institute of Technology\, Nitte and Past Chair\, IEEE MSS who was also the colleague of Prof. Hebbar.\n\n The event started with the invocation by Ms. Dhanyashree of VCET\, Puttur and Mr. Swasthik Bhat G of YIT\, Moodabidri. Vasudeva\, Chair of IEEE Mang alore Subsection welcomed the gathering and gave a prelude to the IEEE Day celebration being organized by IEEE MSS since 2017. The dignitaries offer ed floral tribute to the portrait of Late Prof. K M Hebbar. Dr. Pushparaj D Shetty\, Past Chair (2021) talked about Late Prof. K M Hebbar. Prof. K R amakanth Hebbar\, younger brother of Prof. K m Hebbar and the former profe ssor of Metallurgical Engineering at NITK Surathkal was felicitated during the function. Dr. Ashwini B\, Vice Chair of IEEE MSS introduced the speak er Dr. Chiplunkar.\n\nProf. Niranjan N Chiplunkar gave the lecture on “I ndia Emerging as a Semiconductor Manufacturing Hub”. He illustrated how semiconductor industry has grown in India over the years and discussed its prospects in future with relevant facts and figures. He explained issues and challenges in the manufacturing of semiconductors. He also remembered his close association with Late Prof. Hebbar.\n\nMr. Dhanush Kumar N\, Amr ith Raj\, Nithesh Alva and Srujan Rai\, SAC volunteers organized a quiz on IEEE and Subsection for all the participants. Dr. Poornalatha G\, past ch air of IEEE MSS (2022) emerged as the winner. Dr. G S Hiremath\, SAC Chair of IEEE MSS announced the winners of the online coding competition “Cod esprint” organized as part of IEEE day. Mr. Nithesh Alva\, Sahyadri Coll ege of Engineering and Management (First Place) and Mr. Mohanish K\, Srini vas Institute of Technology\, Mangaluru (Second Place) were announced as w inners and given the prizes during the function.
