DESCRIPTION:Application of VSC transmission with overhead transmission line
s is a relatively recent application\, particularly with MMC converters. A
n overhead transmission line is prone to faults caused by environmental ac
tivity such as lightning which can be cleared and restarted. There are dif
ferent configurations for MMC converters which include various monopole an
d bipole arrangements that can be with half bridge or full bridge submodul
es. The DC transmission line will invariably be connected through one or m
ore cable sections as well. The issues associated with rapid restart follo
wing a lightning fault will be discussed. There is also the possibility th
at the overhead DC transmission line will be coupled to a AC line\, either
on the same tower or the same way-leave. The impact such fundamental coup
ling has on the VSC system performance and ways to minimize adverse impact
s will be presented.\n\nThis is a free to attend event\, but event registr
ation is required for admission. Follow the registeration link detailed be
