DESCRIPTION:The Code of Ethics of the IEICE and the IPSJ are being revised
at approximately the same time. The Code of Ethics is a document that is e
xpected to support ethical behavior and ethical decision-making by members
and professionals of societies and associations. Furthermore\, the two so
cieties are currently collaborating on a collection of ethical case studie
s to better understand the spirit of the two societies' codes of ethics an
d to support decision-making in specific situations. This symposium aims t
o deepen understanding of the revised Code of Ethics of the two societies
and to reflect diverse opinions in the production of the ethics casebook c
urrently being jointly produced through discussion to improve it.\n\nThe s
ymposium will consist of two parts: lectures and panel discussions. In the
lectures\, we will report on the revision of the Code of Ethics of the tw
o societies and the joint production of an ethics casebook\, and introduce
two case studies that will be published in the casebook currently under p
roduction. Based on these lectures\, the panel discussion will discuss wha
t the dialogue on technology and ethics should be like between colleagues
from the same society or association\, between the same professionals\, or
between professionals and society at large\, and what role the Code of Et
hics casebooks should play in this dialogue\, Furthermore\, a discussion w
ill take place between the speakers and the floor on what the audience exp
ects from the casebooks to make them even better.\n\nCo-sponsored by: IEIC
