DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\nRocket Recorder is a STEM program where students de
 sign\, build\, test\, program\, launch\, and analyze a model rocket with a
n embedded data logger to evaluate rocket performance.\n\nThis STEM progra
 m is a multi-session hands-on educational course suitable for STEM camps\,
after school programs\, science parks\, scout groups\, and other learning
environments. In this course\, students learn the fundamentals of rocket
science and explore the concepts with model rocket applications. The pract
ical exercises use model rockets as tools to allow students to experiment
with rocket science and data logging using arduino microcontrollers. They
learn to build rockets and arduino-based data loggers. Additionally\, stu
dents practice model rocketry testing in a safe and monitored environment.
The course is suitable for 7-12 students and adults. Participants build a
nd instrument a data-logging rocket from scratch\, launch it multiple time
s to collect data\, and analyze the results..\n\nStudents develop the tech
nical skills of understanding rocket physics and arduino microcontrollers.
They develop group work skills as all the hands-on activities are perform
ed in small project teams. They learn manufacturing skills by building roc
kets and programming skills while programming an arduino. They learn inter
personal skills as they work with other groups to share resources to test
model rockets. They learn how products are designed and how they can apply
engineering skills in a career.\n\nThe class will be split into 3 project
groups. Each project group will have 2 adult team captain volunteers\, a
rocket team (4 students)\, and a datalogger team (4 students). We will try
to give students their preference to work on the rocket team or the datal
ogger team. The teams will work in parallel to complete the group project.
\n\nThe curriculum is designed as a 5-session course. The events are broke
n into several focused segments\, culminating in a session of rocket testi
ng with multiple launches by each team. Much of the event is held outdoors
\, and the outdoor segments may be weather-permitting. Session themes are:
 \n\n1) Program introduction\, technical fundamentals\, architecture design
and project team setup\n\n2) Design and Prep session (Rocket and Datalogg
er)\n\n3) Build and Test session (Rocket and Datalogger)\n\n4) Launch sess
 ion (Rocket and Datalogger)\n\n5) Data analysis\, results\, final wrapup\n
