DESCRIPTION:The UK and Ireland Section has implemented a strategy to increa
se engagement with section members during 2024 and 2025.\n\nDuring IEEE We
ek 2024 the UK and Ireland Section organised three regional community enga
 gement events in [London](https://www.ieee-ukandireland.org/event-review-i
 eee-week-2024-public-engagement-event-london/) on 30 September\, [Liverpoo
 l](https://www.ieee-ukandireland.org/event/ieee-week-2024-public-engagemen
 t-event-liverpool/) on 01 October and [Dublin](https://www.ieee-ukandirela
 nd.org/event-review-ieee-week-2024-public-engagement-event-dublin/) on 04
October in addition to three meetings with Student Branch Members and Stud
 ent Branch Counsellors in [London](https://www.ieee-ukandireland.org/event
 /ieee-week-2024-student-branch-affinity-group-event-london/) on 01 October
 \, [Liverpool](https://www.ieee-ukandireland.org/event/ieee-week-2024-stud
 ent-branch-affinity-group-event-liverpool/) on 02 October and [Dublin](htt
 ps://www.ieee-ukandireland.org/event/ieee-week-2024-student-branch-affinit
y-group-event-dublin/) on 03 October 2024 with participation of IEEE Presi
dent Dr Tom Coughlin.\n\nDuring 2025 regional meetings will continue to be
organised on a regular basis to support networking among Section Members.
\n\nThe UK and Ireland Section is organising the Traditional Community Eng
agement Event in Regent Street Cinema\, London on 17 December.\n\nAgenda\n

evolving technologies such as Artificial Intelligence\, Robotics\, Machine
Learning\, Cloud Computing\, Big Data\, the Internet of Things\, and Mobi
le Computing are combining to disrupt traditional models and radically cha
nge how we live\, work\, and interact. More importantly\, these technologi
es change the way we live and do business: the world’s largest bookstore
is a Cloud Computing provider\, and the largest fleet of cars in the worl
d is operated by an app provider. Areas such as healthcare have been trans
 formed dramatically\, with better analysis\, imaging\, detection\, diagnos
 is\, treatment\, robot-assisted surgery\, and even significant advances in
sharing health records. We eagerly await the day when cars\, buses\, truc
ks\, and railways are self-driven\, and Industry 4.0 is already upon us\,
and of course we claim the use of AI in just about everything. All of thes
e advances are entirely dependent on software. But given our dependence on
software\, how can it advance humanity? How can we use it to improve our
 lives\, our world\, our environment?\n\nGuest Speaker Biography\n\nProfess
or Mike Hinchey is Professor of Software Engineering at University of Lime
rick\, Ireland\, where he was previously Head of Department of Computer Sc
ience and Information Systems and Director of Lero-the Science Foundation
Ireland Research Centre for Software\, a national research centre headquar
