DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Future Networks Satellite Working Group\n\nDate/T
 ime: Wednesday\, December 18th\, 2024 @ 17:00 UTC\n\nJoin us for two amazi
ng presentations\n\nTopic:\n\nManagement and Control Techniques for Energy
Saving in Integrated Non-Terrestrial/Terrestrial Networks\n\nby Franco Da
 voli (CNIT-University of Genoa\, Italy)\, Hesham Elbakoury (Consultant\, U
SA)\n\nAbstract:\n\nIn the evolutionary path beyond 5G toward 6G\, network
energy efficiency is being recognized as a fundamental indicator\, along
with those regarding system performance. The impact of this aspect extends
to both wired and wireless networks and\, among the latter\, to Non-Terre
strial Networks (NTNs) as well\, and implies a reconsideration of manageme
nt and control techniques to include the trade-off between energy and perf
ormance KPIs. This talk will touch upon some topics relevant to NTN/TN int
egration in this respect: conveying energy consumption information and adj
ustment capabilities\; energy/performance tradeoff over multiple time scal
 es\; role of virtualization\; multiple orchestration levels\; exploiting O
-RAN functional splitting in NTN edge extension\; role of AI/ML.\n\nSpeake
rs:\n\nFranco Davoli is Professor Emeritus at the University of Genoa\, De
partment of Electrical\, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering\, a
nd Naval Architecture (DITEN). (see full bio in SPEAKER details)\nHesham i
s an industry veteran with extensive background and expertise in IT/OT\, a
nd the architecture and design of access\, carrier\, and enterprise Networ
ks. (see full bio in SPEAKER details)\nTopic:\n\nEvolving Non-Terrestrial
Networks from 5G to 6G\n\nby Alessandro Guidotti (CNIT-University of Bolog
 na\, Italy)\n\nAbstract:\n\nIn the evolutionary path beyond 5G toward 6G\,
