 conduct a field trip to the Edison Laboratory in West Orange\, starting at
  9:45 am.\n\nABOUT THE TOPIC\n\n[From National Park Service]\nThomas Ediso
 n National Historical Park promotes an international understanding and app
 reciation of the life and achievements of Thomas Alva Edison by preserving
  the last and largest of his laboratories\, home of the perfected phonogra
 ph\, motion pictures\, the nickel-iron alkaline storage battery\, and a va
 riety of other products. Glenmont\, the Edison estate in nearby Llewellyn 
 Park\, was the domestic retreat from the frenzy of lab and factory.\n\nThe
  Laboratory Complex includes fourteen historic structures\, six of which w
 ere built in 1887 as the first laboratory dedicated to the “business of 
 inventing.” Many rooms contain their original furnishings. A replica of 
 the world’s first motion picture studio\, the “Black Maria\,” is als
 o part of the park. Museum collections encompass over 400\,000 artifacts i
 ncluding prototype and commercial Edison products\, laboratory furnishings
  and equipment\, and personal items used by the Edison’s in their home. 
 The Edison Archives includes an estimated five million documents\, 48\,000
  sound recordings\, 10\,000 rare books\, 4\,000 laboratory notebooks and 6
 0\,000 photographic images. These collections are among the largest in the
  National Park Service. The Edison home at Glenmont is a twenty-nine room 
 brick and timber mansion built in 1880 and surrounded by fifteen acres of 
 landscaped grounds\, a greenhouse and potting shed\, barn and stables\, an
 d a garage (made of Edison poured concrete).\n\nREGISTRATION AND FEES\n\nT
 he size of our tour group is limited.\nIn order to participate\, you MUST 
 contact Steven Garfinkel at sgarfinkel@ieee.org in advance\, no later than
  by May 3.\n\nThe Consultants’ Network does not charge any fees to parti
