DESCRIPTION:Executive Committee meets to discuss San Diego IEEE activities
at this monthly meeting. All IEEE members are welcome to attend. Please re
 gister.\n\nAdditional information about EYH:\n\nJanuary 9\, 2025\nRE: Supp
ort Request for EYH Conference\nDear IEEE San Diego Committee\,\n\nOn beha
lf of the Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) San Diego team\, I am reaching out
to\nrequest your support for our 2025 EYH Conference\, scheduled for Satu
rday\, March 22\,\n2025. EYH San Diego is a nonprofit organization committ
ed to empowering young\nwomen to pursue careers in science\, technology\,
engineering\, and math (STEM) through\ninteractive\, hands-on workshops an
d meaningful mentorship opportunities.\n\nOur flagship EYH Conference offe
rs middle and high school girls from diverse\nsocioeconomic backgrounds th
e chance to explore STEM topics in engaging workshops\nconducted by indust
ry professionals\, government scientists\, and academics. Since\n2002\, th
e conference has connected 200-300 young women annually with inspiring\nfe
male role models\, providing an authentic STEM experience that research sh
ows is\ncritical to increasing interest in STEM careers.\n\nIn 2024\, risi
ng costs limited our ability to fully meet the demand for this program\,\n
resulting in reduced participation and restricted transportation options f
or students\nfrom underserved communities. Despite these challenges\, 55%
of participants received\nfull fee waivers\, reflecting our ongoing commit
ment to making STEM education\naccessible to all. As we plan for 2025\, we
aim to raise sufficient funds to expand\nattendance to 250 participants w
hile maintaining affordability and accessibility.\nWe are requesting your
support to help cover program costs and ensure that every\nyoung woman who
wants to attend has the opportunity to do so. A contribution of\n$5\,000
would directly enable us to provide fee waivers\, organize transportation
for\nschools in need\, and deliver an impactful experience for participant
 s. Your support\nwould go a long way to helping us accomplish this goal.\n
\nThe EYH Conference is one of the few events in San Diego exclusively foc
used on young\nwomen\, strategically blending mentorship\, career explorat
 ion\, and hands-on learning.\nWith your partnership\, we can inspire and s
upport a diverse future STEM workforce and\nhelp these young women realize
their potential.\n\nThank you for considering our request. I would be del
ighted to provide more information\nabout our program or discuss potential
partnership opportunities with IEEE San Diego.\nSincerely\,\nLiz Ferguson
 \, Executive Director\n\nOriginal project proposal\, received in 2021\, is
included below\, and provides additional context.\n\nSan Diego Section Fu
nd Project Proposal\n\nRequested for 2021 decision - Date to provide fundi
ng: Requested by February 1\, 2022\nAmount: $2500 in support of San Diego
 Expanding Your Horizons (SD-EYH)\nhttps://eyhsandiego.org\n\nBudget: $2500
is requested\, and SD-EYH would benefit from greater amounts\, depending
on\navailability of funding\, up to and including $5000 (the intended annu
al budget for the SD-IEEE\nfund). The major annual event\, serving 200 gir
ls and other interested students grades 6-10\nacross San Diego County\, is
held in March and requires a budget of $15000 approximately\,\nincluding
facilities charges\, food\, supplies\, and transportation for classes of u
nderprivileged\nstudents from across the county to be able to participate
in a day of hands-on STEM workshops\nand mentoring activities held at the
University of San Diego (but not affiliated with the\nuniversity\, they su
pport the event through discounted facilities charges). SD-EYH relies on\n
donations\, as more than 60% of attendees get the non-profit registration
fee waived due to\nability to pay. [When the event went virtual in 2020 an
 d 2021\, there were still considerable\ncosts to assemble\, package\, and
mail individual hands-on kits to the young student participants\nwith almo
st no optional fees actually paid.]\n\nOversight and accountability: Kathl
een Kramer and Kathy Hayashi\, among other SD-IEEE WIE\,\nare actively inv
olved with SD-EYH activities and can ensure that appropriate reporting and
use\nof funding occurs. Theresa Burke and other SD-IEEE WIE leadership ca
n also integrate a SD-IEEE\nWIE activity into the annual event. [SD-EYH is
  a 501c3\,\nhttps://greatnonprofits.org/org/expanding-your-horizons-of-san

EEE- WIE and IEEE San Diego students at USD have been involved in the\nact
ivities. SD-EYH has received ~$500 annually for several years and publiciz
 ed SD-IEEE support\nfor its activities\, including at https://eyhsandiego.
org/blog/ Due to the pandemic\, they had to\nre-imagine their hands on wor
kshops into virtual events in 2020 and 2021\, and section\nvolunteers were
still involved\, along with industry professionals from various STEM fiel
 ds\,\nincluding IEEE fields of interest.\n\nAbout SD-EYH:\nSince 2002\, ou
r largest program is an annual STEM conference for girls in grades 6-10\,\
nconnecting 350-450 girls from around San Diego County with STEM professio
nals in the San\nDiego community. Each group of 15-20 girls is mentored by
2-3 female STEM undergraduate\nstudents\, providing the girls with additi
onal STEM-based interactions. Our goal is to increase\nthe girls’ intere
st in STEM careers by providing exciting and engaging hands-on learning\ne
xperiences. In our current pandemic situation\, we are excited to provide
virtual workshop\nopportunities for San Diego girls. EYH San Diego is a pr
