DESCRIPTION:IEEE Newfoundland-Labrador Computer\, Communication\, and Circu
its & Systems Joint Societies Chapter cordially invites you to a technical
presentation entitled “Rateless Joint Source Channel Coding with Applic
ation in Semantic Communications” by Dr. Saeed R. Khosravirad\, Nokia Be
ll Labs\, New Jersey\, USA.\n\nWhen: Jan. 23\, 2025\, 1.30-3.30pm (Thursda
y)\n\nWhere: CSF-1203\, ECE Boardroom\, Memorial University of Newfoundlan
d\, St. John’s\, NL\, Canada\n\nSeminar Title: Rateless Joint Source Cha
nnel Coding with Application in Semantic Communications\n\nSeminar Abstrac
t:\nThis talk aims to dive into the practical concerns around semantic com
munication and provide a blueprint for semantic networking system design r
elying on updating the existing network systems with some essential modifi
cations. To this end\, a new family of joint source-channel codes\, dubbed
rateless JSCC\, is introduced and a deep neural network realization of th
em is presented\, which will enable the application and the network to sea
mlessly form a cooperative joint venture towards sematic communication. Th
e talk will also outline a comprehensive list of open research problems an
d development challenges towards a practical 6G semantic communications sy
stem design.\n\nBiography of the Speaker:\nSaeed R. Khosravirad is a Nokia
Bell Labs member of the technical staff. In his role he has contributed t
o wireless networking technologies beyond conventional mobile broadband: t
his includes wireless communications for cyber-physical applications and c
loud-robotics\, artificial intelligence as enabler of radar sensing to cre
ate digital twin of the world\, and electromagnetic and circuit theory as
essential elements of understanding and expanding communications and infor
mation theory. He received his Ph. D. degree in telecommunications from Mc
Gill University\, Canada. Prior to that\, he received the B. Sc. degree fr
om the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering\, University of T
ehran\, Iran\, and the M. Sc. degree from the department of Electrical Eng
ineering\, Sharif University of Technology\, Iran. During 2018-2019\, he w
as with the Electrical & Computer Engineering department of University of
Toronto\, Canada as a Visiting Scholar. He is a senior member of the IEEE\
, editor of the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications\, editor of t
he IEEE Communications Magazine\, and holds more than 100 published papers
 and patents.\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr. Saeed R. Khosravirad\n\nRoom: CSF-1203\,
