DESCRIPTION:Light scattering has become an important tool for investigating
elementary excitations in the materials\, through theoretical and experim
ental studies. In this context\, several techniques allow the study of the
inelastic light scattering process\, among which Raman and Brillouin scat
tering stand out. While their scattering mechanisms are the same\, they di
ffer in their experimental arrangements. A class of materials that has att
racted great interest for the study of this topic is magnetic materials. I
n this Journal Club\, we will present the basic concepts of light scatteri
ng and magnetic excitations (magnons) in magnetic materials. Moreover\, we
will discuss the importance of magnon interactions in magnetic properties
