DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we will report the work carried out over the las
t few years in the framework of an active collaboration with Hydro-Quebec\
, the power utility in the province of Quebec\, Canada\, for the deploymen
t of wireless technologies within power substations. We will position the
work within the smart grid framework\, and motivate its interest in this r
egard. We will then go over some of the sources of electromagnetic noise t
hat are present within power substations and which make it a hostile envir
onment for classical wireless communications. Specific measurement campaig
ns have allowed us to characterize the EM noise in substations\, and in pa
rticular its impulsive nature\; we will describe some of the models develo
ped as well as an example of receiver adapted to this type of noise. Final
ly\, we will touch upon a few additional potential avenues to enable wirel
ess communications within substations.\n\nSpeaker(s): Fabrice Labeau - Ass
