DESCRIPTION:[]Git Mastery Session 02 Report\n\nDate: January 28\, 2025\nTim
 e: 6:00 PM onwards\nPlatform: Zoom\nOrganized by: IEEE Student Branch\, Un
iversity of Peradeniya\nFacilitator: Mr. Akila Karunanayake\n\nObjective:\
n\nThe Git Mastery Session 02 aimed to introduce participants to more adva
nced features of Git and GitHub\, focusing on branching\, forking\, and pu
ll requests. This session was designed to enhance participants’ collabor
ation and project management skills\, enabling them to work more effective
 ly in team-based development environments.\n\nSession Highlights:\n\n-\nBr
anching: The session began with an in-depth explanation of branching in Gi
 t. Participants learned the significance of creating branches for working
on separate features or fixes without affecting the main codebase. Mr. Aki
la Karunanayake demonstrated how to create\, switch\, merge\, and delete b
ranches using Git commands\, providing real-world examples of how branchin
g facilitates parallel development.\n\n-\nForking: The facilitator introdu
ced the concept of forking repositories on GitHub. Participants were shown
how to fork a repository to make their own copy\, allowing them to work o
n a project independently without affecting the original repository. This
was particularly useful for open-source contributions and collaborating on
large projects.\n\n-\nPull Requests: The core topic of the session was pu
ll requests. Mr. Akila Karunanayake explained how to create\, review\, and
merge pull requests on GitHub. Participants learned the process of submit
ting changes to an original repository for review\, allowing for collabora
tion and feedback on their contributions. The session emphasized best prac
tices for writing meaningful commit messages and ensuring clean\, well-str
uctured pull requests.\n\nEngagement and Interaction:\n\nThe session inclu
ded interactive demonstrations\, where participants were guided step-by-st
ep in creating branches\, forking repositories\, and submitting pull reque
sts. Real-time questions and answers were encouraged\, and participants we
re able to actively engage with the facilitator\, clearing doubts and deep
ening their understanding of these Git features.\n\nLearning Outcomes:\n\n
By the end of the session\, participants had gained practical knowledge of
:\n\n- Branching: Creating and managing branches in Git to handle differen
t tasks or features independently.\n- Forking: How to fork repositories on
GitHub and contribute to open-source projects.\n- Pull Requests: The proc
ess of submitting and reviewing pull requests for collaborative developmen
t.\n\nConclusion:\n\nGit Mastery Session 02 expanded upon the fundamentals
covered in Session 01\, offering participants essential collaboration too
ls for version control. The session provided a hands-on approach to master
ing branching\, forking\, and pull requests\, all critical skills for work
ing in team-based environments. Participants are now better equipped to co
ntribute to open-source projects\, manage complex repositories\, and colla
borate effectively using Git and GitHub.\n\nSpeaker(s): Akila\, \n\nVirtua
