DESCRIPTION:[]\n\nAbstract:\n\nAdam Middleton and Sabrina Mercer will prese
 nt The Energy Transition 2.0\, focusing upon how the Energy Industry has b
 ecome even more volatile and uncertain following recent macroeconomic and 
 societal changes. This seminar will examine what is happening in Energy to
 day. This will cover a wide variety of topics including Global macro econo
 mics and the potential impact upon the Energy Transition\, the Business En
 vironment\, VUCA (volatile / uncertain / complex / ambiguous) and BANI (br
 ittle / anxiety / non-linear / incomprehensible) and their implication.\n\
 nFrom there it will look at innovation\, resilience and Weatherproofing in
  energy: critical capabilities for the next generation of energy industry 
 leaders before examining the personal implications of Professor Middleton
 ’s career in the energy sector\, and what would be done differently. The
 y will look to draw conclusions and implications for the Energy Transition
  in Europe.\n\nBiography – Professor Adam Middleton\, Vice President\, S
 iemens Energy:\n\nAdam Middleton has spent more than 35 years in the energ
 y\, electrical transmission &amp; distribution\, construction and oil &amp; gas in
 dustries. Originally from the UK\, Adam spent 21 years with GEC / ALSTOM G
 roup companies in the UK and France\, six years with GE Energy in Europe a
 nd North America\, two years with CG Power in Belgium and three years with
  Laing O’Rourke in the UK. Since 2016\, he is with the Siemens / Siemens
  Energy group of companies\, where he has had responsibility for Energy Ma
 nagement in Belgium\, France and Africa. In April 2019\, Adam took over as
  Senior Vice President of the Gas &amp; Power Operating Company of Siemens N.V
 . in the Netherlands\, then Chair of the Management Board and MD of Siemen
 s Energy B.V. in The Netherlands in March 2020 followed by President of Si
 emens Energy France in December 2021. In April 2022\, Adam became Vice Pre
 sident for Western Europe\, in addition to Chair and MD of Siemens Energy 
 NV/SA in Belgium in January 2023. Adam holds a First-Class Honours Degree 
 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bradford (
 UK) and an MBA from Warwick Business School (UK). He is a Chartered Engine
 er (C.Eng). Chair of CIGRE UK (2016-22) and member of the CIGRE Global Exe
 cutive Steering Committee (2019-22)\, he coaches members of the Women in E
 nergy (WiE) and Next Generation Network (NGN) groups. Adam has a strong in
 terest in the development of new and diverse talent within the engineering
  industry\, and has a passion for improving health and safety at work\, sp
 ecifically around mental health. He works extensively supporting inclusion
 \, equity and diversity\, the Energy Transition and decarbonization initia
 tives in social media. He is based in The Hague\, The Netherlands and is m
 arried with one son.\n\nAdam has been appointed as the Honorary Professor 
 in System Technologies and Strategy in the School of Engineering at the Un
 iversity of Birmingham since 2023\n\nBiography – Sabrina Mercer\, Head o
 f Strategy\, Siemens Energy\, UK:\n\nWith a background in Business Studies
  and Economics\, Sabrina has worked in the Energy industry for over 20 yea
 rs in a variety of commercial roles\, starting in traditional fossil power
  generation and moving increasingly into more renewable operations. She se
 es the opportunities and challenges her company faces as a mirror to the w
 ider Energy Transition. Sabrina thrives on building strong networks and fo
 stering collective leadership\, for example in co-developing the original 
 business model for the GeoPura\, a high-tech start up company dedicated to
  providing clean energy solutions to a wide portfolio of industries.\n\n33
