DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Alabama Section eagerly anticipates an illuminating jo
int presentation by David Chandler and Bryan Owings on Microchip Atomic Cl
ocks\n\nAtomic clocks have become so precise they can now measure thirty b
illion years with a one second uncertainty. Previously confined to nationa
l laboratories and academia\, atomic clocks are now commonly deployed in r
eal world applications like cell phone networks\, data centers\, radars\,
and the GPS constellation. This presentation will cover the fundamental ph
ysics of atomic clocks\, the different types of commercially available clo
cks\, and the new clocks that are being created laboratories around the wo
rld.\n\nTechnical Reference article: IEEE Spectrum Organization monthly ma
gazine November 2024: Squeezing an Optical Atomic Clock into a Briefcase\n
\nThis article should spur us on to read our monthly technical publication
each month and broaden our knowledge.\n\nPLEASE register for this event t
