DESCRIPTION:Extreme weather events increasingly threaten the reliability of
distribution networks\, highlighting the urgent need for advanced energy
storage solutions. This presentation explores the design\, deployment\, an
d operation of a first-of-its-kind hybrid hydrogen and battery energy stor
age system at the Calistoga Resiliency Center\, a microgrid serving a muni
cipality in PG&E territory affected by public safety power shutoffs.\n\nTh
e Calistoga Resiliency Center case study will provide attendees a real-wor
ld insight into the unique capabilities of hydrogen for long-duration stor
age and batteries for grid forming and rapid response\, showcasing how the
ir combination can enhance resiliency and reduce reliance on traditional d
iesel backup. In addition\, we will compare hybrid hydrogen and battery so
lutions to conventional resiliency measures\, and review the improved unde
rstanding in system State-of Readiness (SOR) the hybrid system offers oper
ators plus the additional grid services provided to the larger grid such a
s ancillary services and contingency reserve.\n\nUltimately\, this present
ation aims to provide attendees with a practical framework to design\, de-
risk\, and deploy hybrid energy storage systems for resiliency and grid se
rvices. By demonstrating lessons learned from real-world implementation\,
we will offer strategies to improve reliability\, reduce emissions\, and p
ave the way for a more sustainable and resilient grid.\n\nSpeaker(s): Pete
