DESCRIPTION:Event Details:\nName: Crack The Network\nVenue: Online\nHost: I
EEE WIE MJCET\nTimings: 6:30pm to 8:30pm IST\nDate: 16th and 17th January
2025\n\nPREFACE OF THE EVENT:\n\nOn 16th and 17th January 2025\, IEEE WIE
MJCET organized a two-day online cybersecurity workshop titled "Crack The
Network." This event was conducted during the holidays to accommodate the
availability of our distinguished speaker\, a network security engineer ba
sed in the United States. The primary objective was to introduce students
to networking security fundamentals and expose them to career opportunitie
s in the field. With over 130 attendees\, the workshop marked the first-ev
er cybersecurity-focused event at MJCET\, opening new career paths for stu
dents to explore their passion in network security.\n\nCONTENTS OF THE EVE
NT:\n\nIntroduction to Network Security: The workshop commenced with an in
sightful session led by our expert speaker\, who provided an introduction
to network security. He explained the fundamental concepts\, including how
data is transmitted over networks\, the role of firewalls\, intrusion det
ection systems\, and common vulnerabilities in network infrastructures. Th
e session underscored the significance of securing networks against cyber
threats such as DDoS attacks\, phishing\, and unauthorized access.\n\nExpl
oring Career Opportunities in Cybersecurity: In the next segment\, the spe
aker discussed the vast career opportunities within cybersecurity\, partic
ularly in network security. He provided valuable guidance on essential cer
tifications like CCNA\, CISSP\, and CEH\, which can help students kickstar
t their careers in this field. Attendees were encouraged to explore the gr
owing demand for cybersecurity professionals and the pathways they could t
ake to enter the industry.\n\nHands-on Training: Network Security Fundamen
tals The second day of the workshop was dedicated to hands-on training\, w
here students gained practical knowledge in network security. The session
covered:\n\n-\nBasics of TCP/IP and how data flows through networks\n\n-\n
Identifying and mitigating network vulnerabilities\n\n-\nUnderstanding fir
ewalls\, VPNs\, and their implementation\n\n-\nPacket sniffing and traffic
analysis using Wireshark\n\nThe practical demonstrations helped students
grasp complex security concepts and develop an understanding of real-world
cybersecurity applications.\n\nFinal Task & Certification: At the end of
the workshop\, all attendees were assigned a task related to the concepts
covered. Based on their performance\, participants were awarded certificat
es recognizing their effort and understanding. While no Capture the Flag (
CTF) challenge was conducted\, the final task served as an opportunity for
students to apply their newfound knowledge in a structured format.\n\nCON
CLUSION OF THE EVENT:\n\nThe workshop concluded with a positive response f
rom attendees\, who expressed keen interest in further exploring the field
of cybersecurity. The event successfully introduced students to the funda
mentals of network security and opened doors to potential career paths. As
the first cybersecurity-focused event at MJCET\, "Crack The Network" set
a precedent for future workshops and learning opportunities in this growin
g field.\n\nSpeaker(s): Numan Syed\, \n\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ie
