DESCRIPTION:TryEngineering\, through initiatives like the STEM Grant\, is d
edicated to inspiring and empowering young minds to pursue careers in scie
nce\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics (STEM). Through its progr
am outline\, the IEEE Pulchowk Student Branch from Nepal designed a progra
m called - "STEMfluence: Think\, Tinker\, Thrive". It is a two-day\, hands
-on learning event targeted at Grades 8 to 10 students. STEMfluence bridge
s this gap by combining theory\, visualization\, and practical experience\
, recognizing that abstract scientific concepts can feel disconnected from
real-world applications. Students use beginner-friendly tools like Tinker
cad and lesson plans such as Keysight Technology’s "Transistor Power: Ni
ght Light Challenge" to build actual electronic circuits\, moving beyond t
extbooks into real-world tinkering. Key sessions such as Transistor 101\,
Creative Circuits\, and Exploring Transistors allow students to engage in
interactive quizzes\, simulations\, and design challenges. The event empha
sizes project-based learning\, aiming for measurable improvement in techni
cal skills while also building teamwork\, communication\, and innovation a
bilities. Students work in teams\, guided by IEEE volunteers\, to create a
nd present night light prototypes\, integrating creativity and critical th
inking. Beyond technical knowledge\, STEMfluence connects students to real
-world STEM careers and influencers\, inspiring them to view STEM as a vib
rant and collaborative journey rather than a solitary academic pursuit.\n\
nThis two-day interactive workshop introduces students to the fascinating
world of transistors\, photoresistors\, and circuit design. Through a hand
s-on\, story-driven approach using real-world analogies and digital simula
tion tools like Tinkercad\, participants will build foundational knowledge
in electronics and engineering design processes. The event is designed to
spark curiosity\, build practical skills\, and foster creative problem-so
lving.\n\nDay 1: Understanding the Magic of Transistors\n\n-\nStudents exp
erience how fast a transistor can switch compared to human effort\, using
a fun light switch activity.\n\n-\nThey learn the basic science behind tra
nsistors: what they are\, how they work\, and why they are crucial in mode
rn electronics.\n\n-\nReal-world analogies like the water tap are used to
simplify complex concepts such as signal amplification and switching.\n\n-
\nParticipants explore the basic structure of a transistor (Base\, Collect
or\, Emitter) and different types (NPN and PNP).\n\n-\nIntroduction to Moo
re's Law and the role of transistors in the advancement of technology.\n\n
-\nStudents build simple circuits in Tinkercad\, observing how small signa
ls control larger outputs using transistors.\n\n-\nKey concepts of photore
sistors (light sensors) and LEDs are introduced\, demonstrating how circui
ts react to environmental changes.\n\n-\nThe day wraps up with a Kahoot qu
iz and interactive activities to reinforce learning.\n\n-\nPrimary Design
Challenge: Guided Project building- Transistor Power: Night Light Challeng
e:\n\n- Students design and simulate a smart night lamp using Tinkercad\,
based on their understanding of transistors and photoresistors.\n\nDay 2:
Building Smart Solutions\n\n-\nQuick revision of Day 1 concepts.\n\n-\nTra
nsition from simulation to real hardware assembly\, guiding students throu
gh practical building and troubleshooting.\n\n-\nEmphasis on the Engineeri
ng Design Process: exploring\, designing\, testing\, learning from failure
s\, and iterating improvements.\n\n-\nTeams collaborate to create working
tangible circuits\, reflect on their designs\, and discuss challenges face
d.\n\n-\nStudents are encouraged to innovate by designing their own transi
stor-based projects\, such as automatic street lamps\, light-activated toy
s\, or motor switches. Secondary Design Challenge: Team-Based Project Buil
ding focused on 5 basic projects designed by mentors for students to follo
w along\n\n- Students are assigned to fill up worksheets and work with the
ir team even after day 1 - back in their homes to come up with ideas of pr
oblems/solutions to simulate and present.\n-\nFinal presentations allow st
udents to showcase their designs\, teamwork\, and creativity throughout th
e two days. Experts \, academicians \, industry experts joined the judging
 panel.\n\nBldg: Pathshala Nepal Foundation \, Baneshwor\, Kathmandu\, Nep
