DESCRIPTION:This is a joint meeting of Canadian Society of Senior Engineers
and IEEE Life Members Affinity Groups.\n\nThis series of presentations ha
s been occurring for more than 20 years and is now being also advertised t
o the IEEE Northern Canada Section (NCS) Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG
) through vTools and other IEEE LMAG's and IEEE members depending upon the
topic. At the same time the Canadian Society of Senior Engineers (CSSE) i
s using their national organization to provide information\, the subject a
nd speaker to members across Canada.\n\nThe next meeting will be held on T
hursday\, May 15\, 2025. The meeting will open at 12:30 pm MDT (2:30pm Eas
tern)\, with the presentation starting at 12:45 (2:45 pm EDT). The meeting
will be held via the Zoom platform with the actual invitations sent the a
fternoon of Wednesday\, May 14. If you plan to attend and be included on t
he Zoom invite for this meeting please respond to Tom Madsen\, tcmadsen@te
lus.net\, before noon on Wednesday\, May 14.\n\nPlease note the meeting or
iginates in Alberta which is in the Mountain Time Zone\, so if you are in
another province you must account any necessary time shift.\n\nTitle: The
potential size of the CO2 Direct Air Capture Market and Deep Sky's Role\n\
nPresenter: Leon Suterland\, Director of Design Engineering at Deep Sky\n\
nSummary: The Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) industry involves removing carb
on dioxide directly from the atmosphere to lower atmospheric CO2 levels an
d offset emissions from hard to abate industries. CDR will play an importa
nt role in addition to deep emissions reductions to stay under the Paris A
greement's 1.5°C global warming target. Direct Air Carbon Capture and Sto
rage (DACCS) is a specific form of CDR that captures CO2 from the air and
stores it permanently underground.\n\nDeep Sky is a Canadian company devel
oping DACCS projects in Canada. [Deep Sky's Alpha facility](https://www.de
epskyclimate.com/alpha)in Innisfail\, Alberta will be online in 2025 and b
e a world first "technology agnostic" facility to test many DAC technologi
es at scale.\n\nBio: Leon Suterland is an experienced engineer with more t
han 15 years of experience designing and fabricating power\, gas processin
g\, gas compression\, and refrigeration facilities. In his role as Directo
r of Design Engineering at Deep Sky he integrates energy\, storage\, and p
rocess requirements into facility design as well as working with DAC techn
ology partners to scale up their designs to commercial scale. He has a tra
ck record of delivering safe\, cost-saving systems with expertise in facil
ity process design\, HAZOP\, and Front End Engineering Design. Previously\
, he worked at Plasco Energy Group (now Omni Conversion Technologies)\, St
artec Compression and Process\, and Convrg Innovations.\n\nVirtual: https:
