DESCRIPTION:The virtual session on “Manipulation Meets Perception: Innova
tions in Industrial Applications”\, organized by Y2NPro under IEEE Young
Professionals Sri Lanka\, will take place on the 25th of May 2025\, from
2:30 PM to 4:30 PM IST\, via Zoom. This event is part of the ongoing Robot
ics in Industry 4.0: Automation and Smart Manufacturing Workshop Series an
d will spotlight the convergence of robotic manipulation and perceptual in
telligence in industrial contexts. The session will be led by Dr. Anuradha
Ranasinghe\, a Senior Lecturer in Robotics at Liverpool Hope University\,
UK\, with deep expertise in haptics\, perception\, and human-robot interac
tion. Dr. Ranasinghe will explore how advances in robotic perception—thr
ough tactile sensing\, vision systems\, and environmental feedback—are e
nhancing manipulation tasks such as object handling\, assembly\, and preci
sion control in dynamic industrial settings. The session will highlight in
novations in miniaturized haptic sensors and actuators\, and how these tec
hnologies are enabling robots to perform delicate and adaptive operations\
, even in unstructured or low-visibility environments. Real-world applicat
ions will be showcased across sectors like manufacturing\, logistics\, and
disaster response\, emphasizing the critical role of perception-driven ma
nipulation in increasing autonomy\, safety\, and efficiency. Participants
will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and design strategies b
ehind creating responsive\, perceptive robotic systems capable of working
alongside or independently of humans. An open Q&A session will follow the t
alk\, providing attendees an opportunity to engage directly with Dr. Ranas
inghe and discuss future directions in perception-enabled robotics.\n\nHos
ted by Y2NPro under IEEE YP Sri Lanka\, this session will offer valuable i
nsights for professionals\, students\, and researchers keen on the interse
ction of robotics\, human perception\, and intelligent automation in Indus
