DESCRIPTION:The power industry’s pressing need for the most economical wa
ys to transfer bulk power along a desired path may be met by building new
transmission lines\, which is a long and costly process. Alternatively\, i
t may be quicker and cheaper to utilize the existing transmission lines mo
re efficiently. Power flow control in a transmission line is an art that i
s still being perfected. Three decades after demonstrating the last tool\,
Unified Power Flow Controller\, we now have the latest tool\, Sen Transfo
rmer\, that promises to control active and reactive power flow independent
ly at the lowest possible cost. The test results controlling power flow in
  a 33 kV line using world’s first\, commercial-grade Sen Transformer wil
l be presented. The presentation is designed to provide\n\n· basic princi
ples of power flow control theory\,\n\n· an overview of the most commonly
used power flow controllers\, and their merits and demerits\, and\n\n· f
uture trends\, including power electronics inverter-based Unified Power Fl
ow Controller to transformer and load tap changers-based Sen Transformer.\
n\nThe audience will hear from an expert who actually designed and commiss
ioned a number of power electronics-based FACTS controllers since their in
ceptions in the 1990s.\n\nAgenda: \nTentative Agenda :\n\n11:00 AM Welcome
