ng talk on one of the most promising technologies for controlling\, shapin
g\, and monitoring electromagnetic waves — Reconfigurable Surfaces for R
adar and Communications\n\nDr. Kumar Vijay Mishra is ieee AESS distinguish
ed speaker\,\n\nTitle: Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces for Radar and C
ommunications\n\nAbstract: In recent years\, reconfigurable intelligent su
rfaces (RISs) have shown promising abilities to control and manipulate ele
ctromagnetic (EM) waves through modified surface boundary conditions. Thes
e surfaces are electrically thin and comprise an array of spatially varyin
g sub-wavelength scattering elements (or meta-atoms). Through careful engi
neering of each meta-atom\, RISs can transform an incident EM wave into an
arbitrarily tailored transmitted or reflected wavefront. RISs are being c
onsidered for future generation wireless systems and are already rapidly e
nabling novel applications in sensing and communications such as non-line-
 of-sight coverage\, index modulation\, polarization modulation\, and adapt
able patterns. This talk will explore applications of RISs to radar\, wire
less communications\, and joint radar-communications. Toward the end\, we
will touch upon deep learning-based techniques for RIS inverse design.\n\n
