DESCRIPTION:NASA Space Apps Cairo is one of IEEE Young Professionals Egypt
’s programs and is the local edition of the global NASA International Sp
ace Apps Challenge\, a 48-hour hybrid hackathon uniting technologists\, sc
 ientists\, artists\, entrepreneurs\, and students to tackle real-world pro
blems using NASA’s open Earth and space data. Since its inception in 201
5\, the event has grown steadily: in 2024 it attracted over 2500 participa
 nts (+500 on-site and +2000 online)\, forming more than 600 teams\, which
is a 300% increase over the previous year.\n\nAlso\, one of the teams nomi
nated by Space Apps Cairo in 2024 was later chosen as one of the 10 global
winners among 15\,444 participating teams worldwide\, and was invited to
attend the closing ceremony at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center\, USA.\nTo
support participants\, an on-site preparatory bootcamp is held in Septemb
er\, open to everyone interested in Space Apps. This bootcamp features ses
sions introducing the challenge and Space Apps Cairo\, team formation acti
vities\, and technical and non-technical workshops to prepare attendees fo
r the hackathon in October.\n\nThe 11th edition of NASA Space Apps Cairo w
ill follow a hybrid format\, anchored by an on-site hub in Cairo integrate
d with nationwide virtual participation. This design is informed by last y
ear’s turnout\, which included innovators from nearly every governorate
in Egypt\, further demonstrating the event’s broad reach and impact. In
2024\, 13 local winners emerged\, with 10 teams advancing to global nomina
tion\, including Egypt’s first-ever global award. The event also ranked
among the largest hackathons worldwide in the challenge’s history.\n\nBl
