DESCRIPTION:The IEEE NSU Power and Energy Society Student Branch Chapter su
ccessfully organized the workshop titled “Workshop on Advanced MATLAB &
Simulink for Renewable Energy Research" on 9th August 2025 at LIB607\, Nor
th South University. This insightful workshop was conducted by Mohammad Sh
afayet Hossain\, a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer E
ngineering at North South University and an alumnus of NSU. He has a deep
passion for power systems and is recognized for his extensive knowledge an
d impressive problem-solving skills.\n\nThe session began at 6:00 PM with
a welcome remark. Following the opening remarks\, Mohammad Shafayet Hossai
n introduced himself and provided an overview of MATLAB and SIMULINK. Thes
e two tools are essential for every Electrical and Electronic Engineering
student\, both for academic purposes and for conducting research in renewa
ble energy. He explained how these tools enable users to design and test e
lectrical systems on a computer\, saving time and money by eliminating the
need to construct physical models.\n\nMr. Shafayet discussed the applicat
ions of MATLAB and Simulink in key areas\, including power system modeling
\, simulation\, control design\, and data analysis\, with a specific focus
on the integration of renewable energy in modern power systems. He covere
d real-time testing and verification\, as well as the design aspects of MA
TLAB and SIMULINK. As a practical example\, he demonstrated how to use a p
hotovoltaic (PV) plant to convert direct current (DC) power from solar pan
els into alternating current (AC) power\, showing how this process can be
simulated using Simulink. He also provided training on simulating power el
ectronic circuits with MATLAB and Simulink. His demonstrations included PV
system modelling\, converter design\, and analysis of switching losses. A
dditionally\, he introduced participants to MATLAB-Python integration\, en
hancing computational capabilities.\n\nTo help students continue learning
after the workshop\, Mr. Shafayet Hossain sir recommended two useful books
: Simulation of Power Electronics Circuits with MATLAB/Simulink by Farzin
Asadi and Power Electronics with MATLAB by L. Ashok Kumar. He also encoura
ged everyone to visit the official MATLAB website and its YouTube channel
for tutorials\, examples\, and practice materials to further develop their
skills.\n\nAn interactive Q&A session was held\, during which students as
ked questions and received valuable answers. All participants were awarded
certificates for attending the workshop. After the session\, light refres
hments were served\, and the event concluded with a group photo.\n\nThe ev
ent successfully bridged theoretical knowledge with practical skills in po
wer electronics and renewable energy system simulation. The integration of
MATLAB & Simulink with real-time design principles provided participants
with valuable expertise applicable to both academic research and industria
l applications.\n\nSpeaker(s): Mohammad Shafayet Hossain \, \n\nRoom: LIB
