DESCRIPTION:Dallas IEEE Communication and or Vehicular Society member\,\n\n
Please join us for our September 2025 CVT meeting.\n\nWe will again meet o
n the University of Texas at Dallas campus in the SPN.1 building.\nOur mee
ting talk will be 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM\, lunch will be available starting a
round 11:30 AM.\n\nLunch: We continue to provide a lunch option for our me
 etings.\n\nPrepay via the IEEE website\,\nIEEE Members $10.00\nIEEE Life M
 embers $5.00\nNon-IEEE Members $15.00\nFulltime UTD ECE students: $2.00 (a

\nSoftware-defined radios (SDRs) have transformed how we teach\, learn\, a
nd practice modern wireless communications by providing a flexible\, hands
-on platform that bridges theory with real-world implementation. This talk
presents a curated set of ten SDR-based experiments that have proven espe
cially effective in engaging students and supporting practicing engineers.
The focus will be on practical outcomes—how these experiments make abst
ract concepts tangible\, accelerate skill-building\, and highlight system-
level tradeoffs in wireless design. Attendees will gain insight into how S
DR experiments can serve as both a teaching tool and a professional resour
ce for deepening expertise in next-generation communication systems.\n\nBi
o:\n\nMurat Torlak is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at The Univers
ity of Texas at Dallas. His research spans wireless communications\, softw
are-defined radio systems\, and millimeter-wave sensing and imaging for ne
xt-generation networks. He has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed public
ations and led numerous projects on vehicular communications\, UAV network
ing\, and advanced sensing supported by industry and federal agencies. Fro
