DESCRIPTION:The IEEE OES Oceanography and Meteorology Technology Committee
welcomes you to this invited talk!\n\nSpeaker: Dr. Domenico Cimini (Nation
al Research Council of Italy\, Institute of Methodologies for the Environm
ental Monitoring)\n\nTitle: Microwave Radiometry: From Uncertainty to Netw
 orking\n\nAbstract: Nowadays\, ground-based microwave radiometers (MWR) ar
e robust instruments providing continuous unattended operations and real-t
ime atmospheric observations under nearly all-weather conditions.\n\nGroun
d-based MWR observations have the potential to help fill the observational
gap in the atmospheric boundary layer\, which is crucial for several appl
ications including Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP)\, renewable energy y
ield\, and air quality monitoring. In addition\, long-term MWR observation
s are useful to complement radiosonde observations for reference-quality c
limate monitoring of upper-air. This lecture will review analyses and tool
s developed in the last decade to foster the use of ground- based MWR netw
orks for various applications\, including MWR instrument calibration\, abs
orption model uncertainty characterization\, radiative transfer codes\, an
d initiatives for implementing MWR operational networks.\n\nTime: 10:30am
 on 8 October 2025\n\nSeminar Link: https://mun.webex.com/meet/weimin\n\nSp
