DESCRIPTION:Join us in inspiring future generations of engineers! Do you re
member when you first decided that you wanted to be an engineer? Something
that you saw or something that you heard about captured your imagination
and changed your life. Now\, you’ve got the chance to help 11\,000 eight
h grade students in the Greater Richmond Area and beyond experience the sa
me thing. On October 21st through October 23rd\, the IEEE Richmond Section
will be participating in the [Mission Tomorrow](https://www.chamberrva.co
m/mission-tomorrow/) career exploration event sponsored by ChamberRVA and
Junior Achievement of Central VA. Eighth graders from 11 public school sys
tems in the the cental part of Virginia will be attending this event to
“try on” a wide range of careers. This will be a very fast paced event
with new groups of hundreds of students arriving every 15 minutes. This
is the largest STEM Outreach event that the IEEE Richmond Section has ever
undertaken. Whether you are an IEEE Student Member\, Member\, Senior Memb
er\, or Life Member\, we need your input and assistance with this opportun
ity to help ignite the spark for the scientists and engineers who will fol
low in our footsteps. There are two main things that we need help with:\n\
n- We need to plan a variety of highly interactive and engaging activities
that the students can participate in. The activities need to give student
s a glimpse of what types of things people in our fields do and the activi
ties need to be very quick. Each group of students will make their way thr
ough six exhibition halls with 15-20 companies in each exhibition hall. Ea
ch group of students will only spend 15 minutes in each exhibition hall\,
so we will need to grab their attention very quickly.\n- On the days of th
e event\, we will need volunteers to staff the event. Each day’s event l
asts 4 ½ hours\, and we will need at least two volunteers on-site at all
times. Right now\, we are just trying to determine who might be interested
in helping with this part because we do not yet know exactly what hours w
e will need to be on-site. It will depend upon which exhibit hall we get a
ssigned to. The first exhibit hall’s hours will be from 8:15 AM until 12
:45 PM and the last exhibit hall’s hours will be from 9:30 AM until 2:00
PM. You do not have to be there the entire time\, so even if you can only
spare an hour or two\, we can still use your help.\n\nIf you can help wit
h either or both of these two things\, or even if you just want to stay in
formed of our activities and then decide on your involvement later\, pleas
e register using the link in this announcement no later than Wednesday\, O
ctober 1st at 5:00 PM. Your help is greatly appreciated.\n\n[Participating
