DESCRIPTION:This is a joint meeting of Canadian Society of Senior Engineers
  and IEEE Life Members Affinity Groups.\n\nThis series of presentations ha
 s been occurring for more than 20 years and is now being also advertised t
 o the IEEE Northern Canada Section (NCS) Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG
 ) through vTools and other IEEE LMAG&#39;s and IEEE members depending upon the
  topic. At the same time the Canadian Society of Senior Engineers (CSSE) i
 s using their national organization to provide information\, the subject a
 nd speaker to members across Canada.\n\nThe next meeting will be held on T
 hursday\, October 16\, 2025. The meeting will open at 12:30 pm MDT (2:30pm
  Eastern)\, with the presentation starting at 12:45 (2:45 pm EDT). The mee
 ting will be held via the Zoom platform with the actual invitations sent t

 nTitle: Change Over 50 Years in Canadian Energy\n\nPresenter: Dennis McCon
 aghy\, BSc and MSc Chemical Engineering\n\nSummary:\n\nDennis will discuss
  the evolution of the Canadian hydrocarbon production industry over the la
 st fifty years\, from the mid 70s through to today\, essentially the perio
 d of his career in that industry.  He will provide special emphasis on how
  world class production industries evolved from valued elements of the Can
 adian economy to being beset with political and legal obstruction\, puttin
 g in doubt its capacity to even sustain its existing scale let alone grow.
  How did this happen? How could this have happened in Canada? Dennis will 
 offer his analysis from the vantage point of a career that was very much a
 t the center of that change and conflict.\n\nBio:\n\n•Native Albertan\, 
 graduated from the University of Alberta in the mid 70s in Chemical Engine
 ering\, MSc 75\n\n•Joined the Alberta Research Council in 1975\, support
 ing Alberta industrial development and energy policy\n\n•Joined Alberta 
 Gas Trunkline in 1980\, and then onto NOVA Chemicals\, leading feedstock p
 rocurement function into the mid 1990s\n\n•Participated in concept and e
 xecution of the major Canadian merger of NOVA and TransCanada Pipelines in
  the late 1990s\n\n•Led business and corporate development functions at 
 TransCanada through to 2014\, including project development of the Keyston
 e pipeline system\, Energy East\, LNG Canada\, Mackenzie Valley Pipelines 
 project.\n\n•After retirement\, authored 3 books related to the issues a
 nd failure in Canadian climate and energy policy.\n\n•Father of four chi
