DESCRIPTION:A new trend in the aerospace industry is the use of composite m

 dvantage. At the same time\, lightning safety\nhas become a new challenge\
 , not only for aircraft system integrators but for component\nand subassem
 bly designers as well. Due to the low conductivity of the composite\nstruc
 tures\, in the case of a direct lightning strike\, high currents will flow
  through the\nconductive structural elements. As a result of electromagnet
 ic effects\, a significant\namount of energy will be present on all aircra
 ft metallic assemblies\, including electrical\nharnesses\, cables\, and hy
 draulic transport elements. Considering that all hydro-\nmechanical compon
 ents are connected with hydraulic tubes\, they become part of\nconductive 
 paths where induced currents and pulse voltages can cause serious\ndamage.
  The intention of this article is to bring awareness to the Aerospace indu
 stry\nand to outline safety boundaries concerning future projects with com
