DESCRIPTION:This event is co-hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder S
tudent Branch - IEEE Denver Section.\n\nWe invite you to join us for this
incredible opportunity to expand your technical horizons while enjoying gr
eat food and networking! We are thrilled to welcome our guest speaker\, Dr
. Mohagheghi\, who will share insights and expertise in power systems. Whe
ther you are a professional\, recent graduate\, or student passionate abou
t technology\, this dine and learn offers the perfect blend of learning\,
dining\, and meaningful connections with fellow IEEE members.\n\nTalk Abst
ract: Power grid capacity expansion focuses on adding or modernizing gener
ation and transmission resources to respond to the rise in demand over a l
ong-term planning period. Traditionally\, the problem has been mainly view
ed from technical and financial perspectives. However\, with the rise in t
he frequency and severity of natural disasters and their dire impacts on s
ociety\, it is paramount to consider the problem from a nexus of resilienc
e\, sustainability\, and equity. This talk presents a framework for power
grid capacity planning\, while balancing the cost of operation and expansi
on with the life cycle impacts of various technologies. Further\, to ensur
e equity in grid resilience\, a social vulnerability metric is presented t
hat allows for quantifying the impacts of energy not served on communities
affected by long-duration power outages.\n\nSpeaker Bio: Salman Mohaghegh
i received the PhD in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Tec
hnology\, Atlanta\, GA in 2006. Currently\, he is an Associate Professor a
t the Electrical Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines. Prior
to that\, he was a Senior R&D Engineer at ABB Corporate Research Center\,
Raleigh\, NC. His research focuses on power grid resilience against natur
al and manmade hazards\, nexus of energy\, environment\, and society\, and
data analytics.\n\nThe event will take place in the Village View Dining R
oom\, adjacent to the Village Center Dining Hall in Williams Village at th
e University of Colorado Boulder. Parking instructions on the CU Boulder C
ampus will be provided to event registrants as the event gets closer.\n\nP
arking: Guests can park in lot 614. They will enter the code E19856428 and
their correct license plate info into the pay machine for proper validati
on. This code will validate parking for 6 hours.\n\nAgenda: \nThe event wi
ll take place in the Village View Dining Room\, adjacent to the Village Ce
