DESCRIPTION:📢 IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) Italy Chapter is please
d to announce a series of research seminars aimed at disseminating cutting
-edge control research within the Italian academic and industrial communit
 ies.\n\nSeeking Equilibria in Nonconvex Games\n\nDr. Paolo SCARABAGGIO\n\n
Department of Electrical and Information Engineering (DEI)\, Polytechnic o
 f Bari\n\nAbstract:\n\nWhenever a number of self-interested agents with in
dividual dynamics and possibly competing objectives interact\, game theory
provides a natural framework to describe and analyze their behavior. From
the earliest works\, mathematical elegance and theoretical tractability h
ave steered multi-agent decision-making models within the safe harbor of c
onvexity (or concavity). This talk focuses on the existence and computatio
n of equilibria in nonconvex noncooperative games\, where classical convex
-analytic tools fail to apply. A notion of local equilibrium is proposed\,
and its existence and stability are characterized. Two distributed fixed-
point iterations are presented to compute such equilibria\, with convergen
ce proven under (strongly) monotone conditions. Finally\, the talk explore
s a data-driven perspective\, where agents are modeled with neural network
s\, a setting where convexity is inherently absent. A complementary topolo
gical framework is also presented\, replacing convexity with homotopy cond
itions. Applications of these concepts to energy demand management are pre
 sented.\n\nSpeaker short bio:\n\nPaolo Scarabaggio received a Ph.D. in Ele
ctrical and Information Engineering from Politecnico di Bari\, Italy in 20
 22. He is currently an assistant professor (RTDA) at the Decision and Cont
rol Laboratory of Politecnico di Bari. In 2019\, he visited the Delft Cent
er for Systems and Control\, Technical University of Delft\, The Netherlan
ds. His research interests include modeling\, optimization\, game theory\,
and control of complex multi-agent systems\, with application in energy d
istribution systems\, and social networks. He is author of 30+ printed int
ernational publications. He is the recipient of the 2022 IEEE CSS Italy Be
st Young Author Journal Paper Award.\n\nAgenda: \n🗓 November 17\, 2025\
