DESCRIPTION:The Spanish Chapter of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic System
s Society (AESS) organizes a webinar by Prof. Alessio Fascista that will p
rovide an overview of localization and sensing in 5G and 6G networks\, add
ressing both technological advancements and methodological foundations. On
the technology side\, the webinar will explore and compare emerging parad
igms such as Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS)\, radio stripes\, e
xtremely large MIMO (XL-MIMO)\, mmWave/THz\, which are paving the way for
unprecedented opportunities for ubiquitous location awareness. From a meth
odological perspective\, the webinar will examine theoretical performance
bounds to assess the feasibility of various localization and sensing confi
gurations\, and present some advanced signal processing techniques (i.e.\,
phase-coherent processing) that are key to achieving high-accuracy positi
oning and sensing in 5G/6G wireless systems.\n\nThe webinar is free and op
en to all.\n\n--\nAlessio Fascista received the Ph.D. degree in Engineerin
g of Complex Systems from the University of Salento (Lecce\, Italy) in 201
 9. He is currently a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Telecommunication
s at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering (DEI)\, Poli
tecnico di Bari. Formerly\, he was an Assistant Professor at Università d

nications and Systems Engineering of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona
(UAB\, Spain) in 2018\, and at the Department of Electrical Engineering o
f the Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg\, Sweden) in 2022. His
main research interests are in the field of telecommunications with focus
on statistical signal processing for detection\, estimation\, and localiz
ation in terrestrial wireless systems. Relevant application fields are wir
eless networks (including 5G and beyond)\, radars\, and emerging network c
ontexts (including intelligent cyber-physical systems\, smart devices\, an
d environmental monitoring systems). He is the recipient of the 2021 IEEE
Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS\, Italy Chapter) best Ph.
 D. dissertation award for the thesis: “Cooperative Positioning based on
Array Processing and Information Fusion”\, and of the “Francesco Caras
sa 2022 Award” for the Signal Processing area from the Consorzio Naziona
