DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Women in Ocean-STEM Experiential Program for Pre-Unive
rsity Students is a groundbreaking initiative funded by the IEEE STEM Port
al Grant 2025. The program aims to inspire and empower underprivileged rur
al girls in Tamil Nadu to explore future careers in ocean engineering\, ma
rine sciences\, and emerging ocean technologies.\n\nOrganized by passionat
e IEEE volunteers from the IEEE Education Society\, Madras Section\, in co
llaboration with iExplore Foundation\, Rotary International District 3201\
, and the Atal Innovation Mission\, this initiative combines experiential
 learning\, hands-on STEM education\, and real-world problem-solving.\n\nCo
 nducted from 10 November 2025 to 21 November 2025\, the 11-day immersive p
rogram introduced students to foundational STEM concepts and the rapidly g
rowing realm of ocean engineering. The first seven days focused on interac
 tive learning—covering marine ecosystems\, ocean technologies\, sustaina
bility principles\, and engineering fundamentals—making ocean science ac
cessible and engaging.\n\nThe following three days were dedicated to guide
d mentorship\, where students collaborated with experts to identify and de
sign solutions to real-world marine and environmental challenges. On the f
inal day\, participants showcased their innovative ideas by pitching their
  projects\, demonstrating confidence\, awareness\, and problem-solving ski
 lls.\n\nA total of 50 pre-university girls\, supported by 10 teachers and
10 parents from SES Matriculation School\, took part in this transformativ
e experience. The program was enabled by the efforts of 11 committed volun
teers and enriched by insights from 9 eminent guests.\n\nBy focusing on ge
nder equity in STEM and fostering early interest in ocean-related careers\
, this initiative strongly aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5
(Gender Equality) while also contributing to marine sustainability goals.
It complements national efforts to promote women in science\, reflecting
India’s commitment to inclusive and future-ready STEM education.\n\nThe
IEEE STEM Portal Grant 2025 played a pivotal role in enabling this impactf
ul program\, helping bring advanced STEM opportunities to rural communitie
s and creating pathways for young girls to explore the vast potential of o
 cean engineering.\n\nSpeaker(s): Lebin Bright\, Aswin Ram\, Navaneethakris
