DESCRIPTION:The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI\,) Switzerland&#39;s largest resea
 rch institution for natural sciences and engineering\, is home to several 
 large-scale research facilities such as the Swiss Light Source (SLS) and t
 he Swiss Free Electron Laser (SwissFEL).\n\nThe Photon Science Detector Gr
 oup at PSI has a long history of developing X-ray detectors and was pionee
 ring the work on single photon counting for protein crystallography with t
 he PILATUS detector\, later commercialized by the spin-of company DECTRIS.
 \n\nThis seminar will provide an overview of the different detectors that 
 the group develops: both single photon counting and charge integrating\, b
 oth strips and pixels. We explore a few of their applications and touch se
 veral challenges such as improving count rate\, detecting low energy X-ray
 s and the huge amount of data generated by the next generation detectors. 
 Finally\, we will also see how hybrid detectors can be used for electron d
