DESCRIPTION:•The IEEE PES Student Chapter organized an industrial visit t
o the HESCOM Transformer Manufacturing Unit\, aimed at providing students
with practical exposure to the complete process of transformer design\, as
sembly\, and testing.\n•Engineers explained the basic construction of tr
ansformers\, including core materials\, lamination stacking\, coil winding
  techniques\, insulation systems\, and core–coil assembly methods.\n•S
tudents observed the winding process for both HT (High Tension) and LT (Lo
w Tension) coils\, learning about conductor materials\, turns ratio\, inte
rlayer insulation\, and winding machines used in production.\n•The manuf
acturing team demonstrated the tank fabrication process\, involving metal
 cutting\, welding\, bending\, and fitting of bushings\, radiators\, conser
vators\, and cooling fins.\n•Various insulation materials such as kraft
 paper\, pressboard\, varnish\, and transformer oil were explained\, along
with their importance in preventing dielectric failure.\n•Students witne
ssed the transformer oil filtration process\, understanding moisture remov
al\, vacuum drying\, and improving dielectric strength for reliable perfor
mance.\n•The visit included a demonstration of routine and type tests su
ch as insulation resistance testing\, high-voltage test\, turns ratio test
 \, winding resistance measurement\, and no-load and full-load tests.\n•E
ngineers also explained quality control procedures\, BIS standards\, and s
afety practices followed during transformer manufacturing.\n•Overall\, t
he visit offered valuable insights into industrial transformer production\
, testing techniques\, and real-world applications in power distribution n
 etworks.\n\nHESCOM Sub Station\, Nehru Nagar\, Belgaum\, Karnataka\, India
