DESCRIPTION:[]Artificial intelligence is the most popular topic today. Inte
lligent systems are now everywhere in industry and society\, and impacting
our daily lives today. Advances in data science and data-driven methodolo
gies are accelerating automation across industries\, from manufacturing to
infrastructure systems. However\, how to monitor\, control and manage the
operation to ensure the safety and reliability of such a system will be a
future challenge. In fact\, we cannot wait till systems are fully develop
ed and operational\, and managing the design and development of autonomous
systems is what the community should pay more attention to. In this talk\
, some of these issues will be discussed\, with reference to the developme
nt of intelligent manufacturing\, robotics\, autonomous vehicles\, as some
diverse applications.\n\nProf. Min Xie has been a Chair Professor of Indu
strial Engineering at City University of Hong Kong since 2011. He entered
USTC in China in 1978\, and went to Sweden in 1979 to complete his undergr
aduate studies at the Royal Institute of Technology. He later earned his P
hD from Linkoping University in 1987. He was with the National Univ of Sin
gapore from 1991 until 2011. Professor Xie has conducted extensive researc
h in reliability\, quality control\, and systems engineering and has publi
shed over 400 journal papers and 10 books. Prof Xie has served as editor/e
ditorial board members of over 15 refereed journals. He has mentored about
80 PhD students who now excel in industry and academia across continents.
Prof Xie is a fellow of IEEE\, and also elected to European Academy of Sc
iences and Arts. He currently chairs the Fellow Evaluation Committee of IE
EE Systems Council. He is also a Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers 2025.\
