DESCRIPTION:Continuing the tradition of the annual photonics workshop in th
e Dallas-Fort Worth area\, the 2026 UTA Photonics Workshop will be held on
Friday\, February 27\, 2026 (8am-5pm) at the University of Texas at Arlin
gton (UTA) campus. The theme of the 2026 photonics workshop is Quantum Pho
tonics and Space Photonics. This free one-day workshop and networking even
t consists of oral and poster presentations\, panel discussions.\n\nOptics
and photonics will be in the twenty-first century as electronics were in
the 20th century. Optics and semiconductor photonic chip technologies for
computing\, power\, and sensing applications play an increasingly importan
t role in modern smart society. Some of the emerging areas of applications
are in quantum technology and the space domain. Photonics for quantum app
lications offers advantages of scaling and integration\, high-speed proces
sing\, reduced cooling\, and cryogenic networking (cool photonics). Howeve
r\, issues remain on the heterogeneous integration\, power scaling\, low t
emperature operation\, and associated thermal management and design recons
iderations.\n\nThis workshop aims to bring together diverse parties to sha
re advances\, address issues/challenges\, and explore future directions\,
spanning from basic research to practical applications. While the theme is
on quantum and cool (cryogenic) photonics\, we also welcome presentations
on all aspects of photonics\, optics\, and semiconductors. Regional and n
ational collaborations will be explored. Workforce development and student
education will also be discussed.\n\nNew to this year’s workshop\, UTA
Nanotechnology Research Center will showcase major semiconductor research
 and fabrication capabilities.\n\nAgenda: \nhttps://photonics.uta.edu/\n\nR
