DESCRIPTION:Event Report: Industrial Visit in Sant Tukaram Sugar Factory (B
agasse-Based Cogeneration Power Plant)\n\nCreative Outreach: Industrial Vi
sit in Sant Tukaram Sugar Factory Bagasse-Based Cogeneration Power Plant\n
Organized By: IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter at the Department of Elec
trical Engineering JSPM’s Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering\n\nDate:
  23th January 2026\nVenue: Survey No 149\, Kasarsai-Darumbre\, Near Pos
 t Kasarsai\, Taluka Mulshi\, District Pune\, Maharashtra\, 410506\n\nObjec
tive:\nIndustrial exposure is essential for engineering students to unders
tand how theoretical concepts are applied in real-world systems. To provid
e practical insight into energy generation and industrial processing\, the
IEEE PES Student Branch of JSPM’s RSCOE organized an industrial visit t
o a Sugar Factory integrated with a Cogeneration Power Plant having a crus
hing capacity of 3500 tons of sugarcane per day (TCD).\nThe main objective
s of the visit were:\n!)To understand the basic process of sugar manufactu
ring from sugarcane.\n2)To study cogeneration-based electricity production
using industrial by-products.\n3)To observe the practical application of
 electrical machines\, boilers\, and turbines.\n4)To understand sustainable
and efficient utilization of energy resources.\n\nCogeneration Power Plan
t\nThe cogeneration plant operates on the principle of combined heat and p
ower (CHP)\, where both electricity and useful thermal energy are produced
from a single fuel source.\nBagasse generated from the 3500 TCD sugar cru
shing process is used as fuel in boilers to produce high-pressure steam. T
he steam drives a turbine coupled with a generator\, converting thermal en
ergy into electrical energy.\nThe plant has a generation capacity of appro
ximately 15 kVA:\n4 kVA is utilized internally for sugar manufacturing ope
rations.\n11 kVA is exported and sold to the grid.\nThis system enhances e
nergy efficiency and reduces dependency on external power supply.\n\nSugar
Manufacturing Process\nThe visit began with an overview of the sugar prod
uction process. Sugarcane is unloaded in the yard and transported to the m
illing section using mechanical cane carriers. The factory operates with a
  crushing capacity of 3500 TCD\, enabling large-scale sugar production.\nI
n the milling unit\, heavy rollers crush the sugarcane to extract juice. T
he extracted juice is further processed to produce sugar\, while the fibro
us residue obtained after crushing is known as bagasse\, which serves as t
he primary fuel for the cogeneration power plant.\n\nBy-Products and Their
Utilization\nThe sugar factory produces several useful by-products:\n1)Ba
gasse: Used as fuel in the cogeneration plant\n2)Electricity: Used interna
lly and surplus power sold to the grid\n3)Molasses: Used for ethanol produ
ction\n4)Press Mud: Used as agricultural fertilizer\n\nConclusion\nThe ind
ustrial visit provided valuable practical knowledge about a 3500 TCD sugar
manufacturing plant integrated with a cogeneration power system. The visi
t enhanced understanding of renewable energy utilization\, industrial powe
r systems\, and waste-to-energy concepts\, making it highly relevant to el
ectrical engineering education and IEEE activities.\n\nSurvey No 149\, Kas
