 mmon accident precursors in the Portuguese railways. Critical events in th
 e past highlight the need to assess the risk and safety impacts of SPADs. 
 This lecture discusses a risk and safety analysis of SPADs\, using qualita
 tive and quantitative methods. It will also assess impacts and explore mic
 ro-scale and macro-scale perspectives in the performance of railway safety
